VisualFood Centerpiece: Melon and Summer Fruit Flower

Ingredients for 4 people:

- one cantaloupe

- summer fruit of your choice, such as cherries, blueberries, blackberries, grapes, etc.

Supplies and materials:

- a flat dish

- a sharp knife

- a spoon or Parisian scoop for cleaning out the melon.

1. Peel the melon, removing the rind and green parts.

2. Cut it in half horizontally and clean out the seeds.

3. Cut both halves like you would a cake, creating lots of slices about half an inch thick.

4. Arrange the first round of slices around the edge of your plate, positioning the pointed end towards the center (as illustrated in the photo).

5. Once you've completed the first round, make the second. Place the slices on top of the first round but slightly lower down and closer to the center so that you can still see the first round of “petals”.

6. Fill the center with a dark fruit of your choice, like mixed berries, purple grapes, or cherries.

You can prepare the centerpiece a few hours ahead of time. Wrap the plate in plastic wrap and keep it in the fridge until you are ready to serve it.

To serve more people, use a larger plate and add more layers (3 or 4 instead of just 2).

This dish could even become an appetizer if you put a Prosciutto Rose instead of fruit in the center!
